A's to your Q's 1.2

Received a few more questions from Mark.

He asked...
1)What's your favorite holiday?
2)What's the coolest place you've ever been?
3)Starbucks or Dunkin' Donuts?

Great questions!

So my favorite holiday is Independence Day! I love it! My 'gratuity bucket' overflows a little more on this day each year as I celebrate how lucky I am to live with my family in such a wonderful country. The baseball games, BBQ's, fireworks, and suntans are just icing on the cake. Is there anything better? I mean really?

The coolest place I've ever been was on the warning track at Fenway Park. It was the first time I'd ever been to a major league game and it was AMAZING! I was in Boston for a conference and a co-worker at the time, Mikal, bought myself and another co-worker, Jake, tickets to see the Red Sox play. The three of us had a blast! It was Flag Day and they draped a HUGE American Flag over the Green Monster. Somehow, (I'm a little fuzzy on the exact details) Jake and I got the hookups through a partner company and so we got to be part of the crew that caught the flag and walked it back under the stadium after the National Anthem was performed. I'll never forget that experience, and I took a picture (above) of the warning track dirt on my shoe just to prove I was there!

Finally, we don't have any Dunkin' Donuts in Utah, so I'm going to have to say I prefer Starbucks. Although, my sister has been to the DD and she say's they are way better.

It has been a little rainy the last few days and as I was walking from my car to my house I smelled it, fall. Fall is in the air and it makes me quiet sad. While this summer was low on my list of favorite ones, it was still summer. And a sucky summer is better than the best fall or winter. So here's a little picture recap of memorable events.

Hootz & Holly Wedding

I've waited all season for this Owlz promotion and I totally loved it. Hootz and Holly got married tonight and it was so adorable. They had a few other local mascots as groomsmen and the on-field promo girls were bridesmaids. I am slightly offended that I wasn't asked to be a bridesmaid though. I mean Holly was created after my sister, I should have at least been in the line or something, right?!

Tooth, Tonka, Baseball

Today was another fairly crappy day. My tooth still kills and the dentist told me to basically let the antibiotics work..um yeah, well they've been "working" for 3 days now. It feels better when I am laying down rather than sitting or standing but, whatever. I go back again to the endodontist Tuesday. I tried to get my mind off the heartbeat in my tooth tonight by sitting in my chair on the balcony to read for a few minutes, but it didn't really help. Tonka did give me kisses though.

Speaking of Tonka, he is in BIG TROUBLE. I am so upset with him I don't even know what to do. I have picture of what he did, but I'm scared someone from rental management will see them and I'll get in trouble before I can attempt to fix it. I'll post them one day after the steam has stopped coming out my ears. Actually I'll put them on Facebook, I control who sees that. You can see it at www.facebook.com/meagenridley in the Tonka pictures folder. Add me if we aren't already friends. Let's just say he closed the bedroom door on himself and thought he could dig his way out.

Even though my tooth was aching I went to the first Owlz game last night. They played Ogden and won 7-3. Holli and I drove up with Steve (thanks for driving!) and my parents went with Julie. It was a good game and I loved that my Dad came with us. I was a very long game though with my tooth and I was a touch naucsous from taking more pain meds than prescribed.

On the baseball front, we had one of our players (Trevor Pippin) from last year return so we (and by we I mean my parents and Holli) hosted him again. Unfortunately, he was released by the Angels yesterday and flew out this afternoon. I was really sad when I heard the news. He wasn't in our house very long last season due to an injury and I was really looking forward to getting to know him better this summer. I hope another team picks him up soon, he's very talented and would be a great asset to a team. Anyway, Owlz home opener tomorrow, 7PM. Everyone be there.

Nick Adenhart: 1986-2009

I got a disturbing phone call from my Mom with the news that Nick Adenhart had been killed in a car crash earlier this morning. Unless you follow Angels baseball, mostly the minor leagues you probably wouldn't know the name. But I do. Nick was a RHP with a lot of promise and even more talent. He was a 14th round draft pick for the Angels in 2004. He went through the Angel's minor league system, which includes the rookie level, Orem Owlz, and the AAA Salt Lake City Bees. Nick helped the Owlz win the Pioneer League Championship in 2005. He was the youngest pitcher in the major leagues at the time he was called up in May 2008. His very young major league career consisted of 4 appearances, including six shutout innings last night in the Angel's game against Oakland.

Nick was not just another player to make an appearance in our home town. Due to my family's involvement with the Host Family Program with the Owlz, I knew him. He ate dinner with my family, in our home. We have followed his career closely and I am very sad to see his life end. My thoughts and prayers go to his family, as well as the families of the other two individuals killed in the accident.

The Angels and Bee's games were postponed to a later date this evening due to this tragedy. You can read more about Nick's life and career in the many articles consolidated by Stephen Smith at FutureAngels.com

Sun Tea, Tonka Walks, and Baseball

I knew it was going to be warm out today so this morning before work I put together a batch of sun tea and put the jar out on the deck. When I got home it was perfect! I love sun tea!

And I've totally worn Tonk out. At lunch, I took him on a short walk and then when I got home from work we put the leash back on and walked the track for a good 40 min. He'll sleep well tonight.

This is me and Tonk, just hanging out tonight. And you know that's my David Wright shirt! Baseball started today! YAY! Go Mets. I'm not sure why Tonk likes laying on my back. Maybe because it's so squishy. Ha ha, good thing the fitness challenge has started again.

Sooo Ready

Tonk is so ready for Spring Training!

Since Tonk can't handle wearing clothes and I couldn't get him to hold still for a picture here's what the hoodie actually looks like.

Rainy Game

We had not one, but two rain delays at the Owlz game tonight. The first delay, I gathered all my stuff (i.e. purse, book, blanket, ipod, phone, jacket - yes, I bring a crap load of stuff to baseball games) and ran up and hid under the roof of the concourse. I remained totally dry. Woo.

After we returned to our seats my friend Mike gave me an umbrella, joking that I may need it later. So it starts to drizzle again and I pull out the umbrella, put on my jacket, and wrap my blanket around my legs. I was going to brave it out this time since I thought I was super prepared. And then it just starting pouring down. My Mom and I huddled under my little umbrella trying to stay as dry as possible. Right. What were we thinking? We got soaked. But even though I was cold and wet the remainder of the evening, it was kind of fun trying to stay dry. :P

Orem Owlz Opening Day

I could not have said it better myself, so just go here.

Go Bees

My Mom, Holli, and I went to the Salt Lake City Bee's game on Sunday. It was so fun! They played Fresno and the Bee's won 8-1. They are doing amazing this season, so far they have a record of 21-2. WOO. It was so fun to see Brad Coon play again. We got to know him when he started out with the Orem Owlz a few years ago. The weather was perfect for the game, it was sunny and I even got a little sun burnt! I love the sun!! And, we got to see Mike and Bobby two of my favorite summer family people. Anyway, here's a few pictures we took. They aren't very good, but fun none the less. Go Bee's!

Random Thoughts

Here's a few things that have been floating around in my head the last few days..

John Smoltz of the Atlanta Braves has joined the 3000 strikeout club. He is only the 16th pitcher in major league history to do so, which is totally awesome! I watched on tv as he got his 3000th the other day, and it was so cool. It gave me goosebumps!

Another baseball milestone was reached this week as the Chicago Cubs hit 10,000 regular season wins. 10,000!!! They are the 2nd team in baseball to do so. That's so cool! Again...I get goosebumps thinking about it, baseball will always hold a very special place in my heart.

What is this car? It looks like a gerbil. Is it supposed to be cool because it's by Mercedes? There's one in the parking lot at work and I've seen a few more on the road. I just don't get it. If you got in any sort of accident you'd be smooshed like a bug. No bueno.

Summer of 2007

I recently switched back to my old orange enV phone that I was using last summer and found all of these fun pictures I had taken with it! All of them at baseball games. Weird.

Yeah thats right

My Mets shut out the Marlins, 13-0 last night. AND David Wright had a 3 run homer. Go Mets.

2008 Rosters

The Angels minor league affiliates, aka: Cedar Rapids Kernels, Rancho Cucamonga Quakes, Arkansas Travelers, and the SLC Bees FINALLY posted their opening day rosters!! YAY! Now I can see where all the baseball boys will be playing this year.
